A recent report published by the Italian National Association of Women Geometers highlights the significant increase in female participation in the construction sector. According to Istat data, the presence of women has increased both in the workforce and in professional and leadership positions within the industry. In addition, there is an increase in the number of women obtaining a diploma in Construction, Environment and Territory, as well as in those specialising in engineering, architecture and finishing works, including restoration and heavy machinery operation.

Despite this progress, the report notes that social, cultural and educational barriers persist that hinder the full integration of women in the sector. Among the challenges mentioned are the scarcity of female role models, the lack of female mentors and working conditions that are not always adapted to the specific needs of women, especially during maternity. To address these issues, the paper proposes a paradigm shift that includes gender-sensitive vocational training, the implementation of mentoring measures and the promotion of policies that facilitate the transition to a more equitable and socially responsible construction industry.
