Within the framework of the international project Women Can Build LatAm, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, Fundación Eurosur para la Cooperación entre América Latina y la Unión Europea continues to work towards improving women’s employability in the construction sector through vocational training with a gender perspective.
The project aims to transfer knowledge and best practices in training and employability from Europe to Latin America, promoting the active participation of women in a sector historically dominated by men. To achieve this, three workshops were held in each partner country, involving strategic stakeholders from the construction sector.
These meetings, designed using participatory methodologies, aimed to gather perceptions, experiences, needs, and concrete proposals from a territorial and contextual perspective.
The first group involved women who work or have received training in construction-related trades in Argentina. In this space for dialogue and listening, they shared their personal journeys, the obstacles they have faced, the strategies they have developed to remain in the sector, and their hopes for the future.
The second working group brought together representatives from technical training centres, educators, educational authorities, and vocational training specialists. The goal was to identify the challenges faced by the education system in integrating a gender perspective into the teaching of construction-related trades.
The third workshop convened representatives of construction companies, business chambers, HR professionals, and sector consultants. The discussion focused on women’s employability, equal access to recruitment processes, and the conditions needed to foster inclusive work environments.
The results of these three national workshops serve as a foundation for the development of the Women Can Build LatAm project’s Action Plan, which will be collaboratively validated by all partners. This plan aims to prioritise feasible, high-impact, context-specific measures that can be applied in both Latin American and European territories.
