How would you describe the current situation of women in construction?

It is a very male-dominated sector. However, I come from the nursing field, which is far more physically and mentally demanding than construction. That is why, at 50, I decided to take a new direction in my life and train in something that has always interested me: plumbing.

How do you assess female participation in this industry?

I believe that any woman who wants to enter this sector can do so, as long as she does not encounter barriers from colleagues or companies. Women are just as capable as men of performing any job in construction.

What roles do women currently hold in the sector?

Although I have little experience, I have not seen many women working directly on construction sites. However, during my training, I have met other women, which is encouraging. So far, I have had no issues with my male classmates in the classroom.

How do you perceive the future of women in construction?

I am optimistic. Women are determined and have a bright future in this sector. Change is good, and I believe we can bring diversity and new perspectives to an industry traditionally dominated by men.

What are the main barriers to female participation in the sector?

The sector remains traditional, male-dominated, and physically demanding, which may discourage some women. However, I believe that the diversity we bring makes us essential for its evolution.

What changes do you think are necessary to improve this situation?

The Equality Act could make a difference, but only if companies take its implementation seriously and authorities ensure compliance. It is also crucial to create new job opportunities and ensure that training is accessible for all trades.

Absolutely. These skills are essential in any sector, and construction is no exception. They facilitate our entry and help us stay up to date.

What message would you like to share with women interested in this industry?

Construction is a sector full of opportunities and highly motivating. Women have the ability to bring diversity and excellence to a world that has always been male-dominated. It is time to show what we are capable of.
