CIMIENTOS DE IGUALDAD is a strategic alliance promoted by the 2030 Observatory of the CSCAE, the Spanish Association of Executives and Advisors EJE&CON, BMI Group, and the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports, aimed at promoting gender equality in the construction sector in Spain.

This alliance was founded in 2020, based on data extracted from the Active Population Survey (EPA) which highlighted that only 8.4% of professionals in the sector were women. Likewise, their manifesto noted that the year 2019 ended with a 6.9% decrease in women working in the sector, while the percentage of men increased by 1%.

Through Cimientos de Igualdad, the promoting entities and companies seek to raise awareness among companies and organisations in the sector about the added value of promoting effective equality of opportunities between women and men in all areas, particularly in decision-making positions, as a factor of modernisation and competitiveness. Given its varied business structure, the construction sector is the second largest job creator in Spain after agriculture.

For all these reasons, the sector’s new momentum, based on the sustainable renovation of the housing stock, digitalisation, and industrialisation, will be one of the main levers for the economic recovery of the country in the coming years, generating quality, stable, and sustainable employment.
