As part of the Construmat trade fair, on 21 May, Fundación Laboral de la Construcción together with the Madrid Employment Agency organised the session “Women in the Construction Sector: Training and Employability”, which brought together around 60 attendees committed to advancing a more equal and inclusive industry.

During the event, the progress of the international project Women Can Build LatAm was presented — an initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. The project aims to boost women’s participation in the construction sector through practical tools that promote gender equality in the participating countries: Spain, Italy, Chile, and Argentina.

One year into its implementation, Women Can Build LatAm has achieved a significant impact. Key outcomes include the development of the Purple Book of Women in Construction, a publication that compiles best practices and inspiring testimonies, and a self-assessment tool for organisations to measure their level of gender equity.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to transform the traditionally male-dominated construction sector through gender-sensitive vocational training, awareness-raising among key stakeholders, and the creation of cross-border institutional synergies between public and private entities.
