The Women Can Build project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, has established itself as a model of best practices in advancing gender equality within the construction sector. Due to its significant impact across the EU, Erasmus+ has once again entrusted Fundación Laboral de la Construcción to coordinate a second initiative: Women Can Build LatAm, expanding the project’s reach across Latin America and Europe.

From its inception, Women Can Build marked a turning point in the industry, increasing women’s presence in construction and highlighting their contributions. Throughout the project, over 100 testimonies from female construction workers were collected, more than 500 surveys were conducted with educators and industry experts, and the initiative gained over 150 media appearances. Additionally, it was showcased at more than 30 international events, reinforcing its significance and global reach.

One of the project’s key milestones was the training of 50 women through pilot courses in Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Portugal. These programmes equipped participants with skills in various trades, enhancing their employment prospects and facilitating their integration into a traditionally male-dominated sector.

Beyond technical training, Women Can Build has served as a driving force for raising awareness and advocating for gender diversity in the industry. This ongoing effort has inspired new objectives, including expanding its initiatives to Latin America to replicate its impact and further promote equity in the sector.

With this expansion, Women Can Build LatAm reaffirms its commitment to cultural and professional transformation, demonstrating that gender equality is not only achievable but essential for a more sustainable and diverse future in construction.
